Wool . Blanket . Care

Caring for wool blankets from new wool is simple and uncomplicated.

Air the Wool Blanket

to stay fresh.

Wool blankets made from new wool are easy to care for and rarely need washing. Instead of washing the wool blanket frequently, we recommend airing the blanket often and thoroughly – ideally on a clothes rack. This way, odours disappear naturally and the wool blanket remains fresh, beautiful and functional for a long time. The higher the humidity, for example after rain, the better airing works.

Remove Stains

with vinegar water & a root brush.

Thanks to its natural lanolin content (wool fat), new wool is water- and dirt-repellent. Dirt can therefore be easily brushed out.

Light stains on wool blankets are best treated immediately with vinegar water. Mix lukewarm water with a good splash of white household vinegar. Dip a root brush into the mixture and first brush the stain, then brush over a larger area. The vinegar water removes dirt, neutralises odours and at the same time refreshes the colours.

Stubborn stains are best treated with curd soap. First dampen the stain and rub in the soap. Leave to work and then brush out thoroughly with lukewarm water to prevent soap marks. Here, too, we recommend using a root brush.

Hand Wash the Wool Blanket

with mild detergent or curd soap.

Wool blankets are best washed by hand. Place the blanket in a bathtub or shower tray and gently press it through lukewarm water with a mild detergent, wool detergent or curd soap. Rinse using water at the same temperature, this is essential, as wool cannot tolerate sudden changes in temperature. Then press out carefully and dry flat on a clothes rack.

Machine Wash

with caution on a wool cycle.

Machine washing is possible, but it may alter the shape or structure of the wool blanket. Always wash on a wool cycle using a mild detergent. Afterwards, shake out thoroughly and smooth away any creases. However, our clear recommendation is gentle hand washing.

Dry the Wool Blanket

in the air, not in the dryer.

Wool blankets should never be dried in a tumble dryer! After washing, shake out thoroughly, gently smooth away any creases and then dry flat on a clothes rack. After hand washing, we recommend placing an absorbent towel underneath to avoid water puddles on the floor.

Store your Wool Blanket

with vinegar water & scents.

If a wool blanket made from new wool is not used for a longer period, a few simple tips help preserve its quality. Before storage, the blanket should be thoroughly aired and brushed with a light vinegar-water solution – this also protects against moths.

Additional moth protection can be provided by natural scented sachets with lavender or cedarwood. Please make sure to store the wool blanket dry and away from light. For long-term storage, an airtight box is also suitable.

FAQ

On Caring for Wool Blankets
Made of New Wool.

As needed and according to your preference. If the new wool blanket is aired regularly and shows no stains, washing it once a year is generally sufficient.

To remove odours or stains from a wool blanket with vinegar water, ordinary white household vinegar is sufficient. Mix lukewarm water with a good splash of vinegar. To be well prepared, you can fill the vinegar solution directly into a spray bottle and label it accordingly.

We recommend brushing the wool blanket with a root brush, using gentle pressure and following the direction of the fibres. Brushing with the fibres smooths the surface, while brushing against the fibres gently lifts them again.

We recommend using a mild detergent, a wool detergent or soap (such as curd soap).

In this case, the blanket has unfortunately been washed incorrectly, most likely too hot. Sadly, nothing can be done to reverse it. We recommend hand washing with lukewarm water and rinsing at the same temperature.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The blanket can be brushed against the fibres with a root brush to lift the fibres, but the result will not be the same as with a brand-new blanket.

Our wool blankets are specially brushed with natural teasels, which makes them beautifully fluffy. It is completely normal for small pills to appear with use. When this happens – sooner or later depending on usage – it is best to brush the blanket with a root brush in the direction of the fibres. This smooths down the fibres and removes only the excess pills, leaving the blanket beautiful again.

Tip: The opposite also works. If the blanket has become flattened after longer use, you can brush it against the direction of the fibres. The fibres will lift again, and the blanket will regain its fluffiness.

A wool blanket can become static when the air in the room is too dry – most often in winter. Anyone with long hair will be familiar with this problem. Simply hang the blanket in the bathroom during a hot shower or leave it outside overnight in the fresh air. This way, the wool fibres absorb moisture and the problem should be solved.

If the edging (the stitched border) has been damaged, please feel free to contact us. We can also re-edge our wool blankets afterwards. Kindly note that we only offer repairs for poducts made by us and provided to us in a cleaned condition.
