Our . Transparent . Loden Manufactory

Visit the world’s oldest loden mill in Ramsau am Dachstein and experience how real loden is made.

We offer insights into the traditional production of loden. Experience authentic craftsmanship in its original form. We are not a show facility – what you see here is real production. You’ll watch our staff at work and see first-hand how much care and dedication they put into handling raw wool. Most of our machines date back to the first half of the 20th century. These time-tested machines are still in use today because they treat the wool gently and contribute to the high quality of our loden fabric. Another example of our traditional approach is a 50-metre-long loden drying line, which you can often spot fluttering in the wind on sunny days. Just like in the old days, the fabric is dried in the fresh mountain air – a sustainable method we proudly maintain to this day.

We will be closed from April 19 to May 11, 2025.

You’ll experience the production process with all your senses – at times, it can get loud depending on which machines are running.

Dogs are very welcome; however, we recommend not bringing them into the production area due to occasional loud noise.

For visitors who require elevator access: the entrance is located to the left of the main building, and a lift is available inside.
