The Steiner Family
Our hearts have been beating for Loden, and for our company, for centuries. The story of the world’s oldest loden mill is inseparably linked with the Dachstein, Ramsau, and the Steiner family. Our family history stretches back many centuries, and we carry this heritage forward with passion, responsibility, and respect for the legacy of our ancestors.
Since 2006, we – Jörg and Martina Steiner – have been guiding the path of the company together. It is both a great honour and a responsibility to lead a business with such a long tradition into the future. In doing so, we trust in what has always defined us: genuine craftsmanship, lived sustainability, and deep expertise handed down from generation to generation.
br>We work exclusively with 100% new wool, a renewable natural resource. Not only do we produce finest loden, but we also create our entire collection ourselves. For us, sustainability is not a modern trend – it has always been a lived tradition. Our loden mill has always been powered by water – in earlier times by direct waterpower, and today by energy from our own hydroelectric plants. At every stage of production, we ensure the most careful and respectful handling of our materials.
What began centuries ago as a simple fulling mill, where local farmers brought their fabrics for processing, has grown into a fully integrated business with 35 dedicated employees – a family company that stands for the highest quality while remaining personal and down-to-earth. Even in earlier times, travellers were welcomed and cared for here. Today, our company has become a popular destination, where visitors are invited to explore our production, discover our products in the shop, and enjoy traditional Styrian specialities in our restaurant.
